Why Choose Exclusive Pilates?
Exclusive Pilates delivers effective and safe tuition of a very high standard. Based in Basildon, Essex, I have more than 30 years of experience in the fitness industry, 21 of which have been Pilates-based. I run a very tight ship when recruiting new instructors to join my team and you can rest assured that all instructors will have undergone thorough training and gained certification with a highly reputable Pilates training provider. Get in touch today for more details.
A Private Studio
My studio is private – spacious, but not vast, and not overlooked by other properties in the surrounding areas. With a range of equipment available, I cater to private and semi-private sessions. Unlike other Pilates instructors, I don’t offer big classes thrashing out loads of reps to music. Pilates in its truest form is about quality, precision, and control, and focused tuition guarantees that everyone gets the attention required to ensure you are completing the exercises safely and effectively.
Using Pilates Equipment
When an instructor has completed the full certification (all equipment) in Pilates, they have an understanding that all the pieces of apparatus work together to give you the best results. Joseph Pilates invented all the equipment, not just the reformer, and although the reformer is a fantastic workout, the other pieces of equipment are just as important, if not better! I always keep abreast of new research and current trends, and I always attend courses to further my knowledge – you never stop learning!
Fitness During or Post-Menopause
In addition to my qualifications and experience as an instructor, I am an MBodies bone-safe programmer, which means I specialise in working with women during or after menopause and I am aware of the dangers of osteopenia – the predecessor to osteoporosis. Working out with osteopenia can cause spinal damage through tiny stress fractures, which is why I incorporate resisted flexion exercises into your Pilates workouts to avoid this.
How to Choose a Studio
When looking for a Pilates studio, you should first ensure that either the owner/proprietor or a manager has at least one qualification in all the equipment that they use. They and the instructors they employ need to know their field to offer a quality service.
Instructors should also be qualified with a gold-standard teacher-training provider such as Stott, Polestar, Basi, Classical, or the Pilates Foundation. A good teacher will have trained for at least two years in all the equipment, not just a few weekends, and they should be happy to provide their certification upon request.

What’s more, they should have knowledge of working with injuries and special populations and pathologies and they should always further their education and maintain their CECS by completing at least the minimum amount of training hours per year to keep certified. If they are on the REPS register, they should be at Level 3 or above.
Finally, big class numbers are profitable for studios, but offer poor value for money for participants. Keeping class numbers low is always a good sign.
